Karlsruhe (GER) — German-based joimax^®, the market leader in technologies and training methods for full-endoscopic and minimally invasive spinal surgery, is excited to announce a major spike in attendance at its Endoscopic Spine Academy (ESPINEA^®) workshops, which contributes to sustainable growth after another year of record revenues in 2021.

The growing interest can be attributed to increased coverage in literature and publications as cited on PubMed^®. Moreover, the joimax^®-initiated workshop program, now under the umbrella of ESPINEA^®, offers optimal training for a variety of applications and procedures, making it attractive to a broader audience. 

joimax^® established ESPINEA^® three years ago. In Fall 2020, the Endoscopic Spine Academy was accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (RCSEd). It is one of only four Accreditation Centers that meet its strict rigorous internal quality assurance processes. Together, with its growing team of faculty, joimax^® developed the complete six-step curriculum to bridge the learning curve for spine surgeons. The curriculum, which was approved by the RCSEd, is developed as an educational program from beginners to masters alike.

In addition to holding ESPINEA^® courses at the joimax^®-owned premises in Karlsruhe (Germany) and Irvine (USA), they are also held at ORSI Academy (Belgium) and at other prestigious universities, such as Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg (Austria). Recently, ESPINEA^® was rolled out in Thailand. Prior to the July PASMISS Meeting, the courses will be launched in Singapore for the APAC region, and following the October SMISS Meeting, launched widely in the U.S.

With the ESPINEA^® courses, surgeons can train on different procedures using the joimax^® TESSYS^®, iLESSYS^®, CESSYS^®, MultiZYTE^®, EndoLIF^®, Percusys^® based on the latest NAVENTO^® tower. Most of the courses are conducted in a hybrid mode — online and on-site presentations and lectures combined with in-person hands-on training using models, simulators and anatomical specimens.

ESPINEA^® was established as an open education platform for other players in the field of spinal surgery as well. Therefore, further supporters have already joined and new entrants are welcomed.

More than 900 surgeons out of 2,000 users in China only took part in live surgeries, workshops and a scientific program on endoscopic spinal technologies including MISS fusion techniques. Besides, joimax^® organized the presentation of its latest systems like the TESSYS^® ISeeU and iLESSYS^® Delta in product trainings as well as newest tools for endoscopic treatment in an exhibition hall. The program was supported by joimax^® Faculty Members from Europe, USA and other countries. In the course of the meeting a Chinese Faculty Team with 13 members was inaugurated by Wolfgang Ries, Founder and CEO of joimax^® and Qin-Guang You, President of joimax^® China. ”Due to the growing education and training needs in the Asian region the time has come to form a local team for this important market”, explains Wolfgang Ries. “It is a great honor to lead this team and to support the further growth of joimax^®”, says the head of the Faculty Team, Prof. Yue Zhou from the Third Military Medical University in Chongqing. He was awarded with the joimax^® Handshake Award in Gold for his exceptional commitment and the members of the group received the joimax^® Handshake Award in Silver.

After very satisfying growing sales figures in 2016 (31 % growth vs. 2015), joimax^® is proud to announce a jump in sales in the first quarter 2017. Consolidated figures show an increase of 60 % compared to the same period of last year. “This is a very encouraging development, showing the continuing expansion and growth of the group”, states Wolfgang Ries, Founder and CEO of joimax^®.

As the second step of the joimax^® CM3 Education Program, surgeons are trained on joimax^® methods during hands-on cadaver workshops taking place throughout the year in different locations and countries. The typical workshop agenda includes theoretical sessions with expert lectures from joimax^® Faculty members as well as practical sessions on human cadavers. The feedback joimax^® receives from the trained doctors after each workshop and the increasing number of workshop registrants speak for themselves. “When we analyze the feedback forms after each course we find that participants highly value the hands-on time which also allows them to discuss with the instructors as well as the opportunity to share experience with surgeons that are new to endoscopy.” says Monika Gensert, Senior Product and Education Manager at joimax^®.

From January to May 2015, joimax^® organized and conducted four workshops in Germany and Austria and another four workshops in the US. In Europe alone joimax^® trained 60 surgeons from various countries and disciplines. Surgeons can chose between basic and advanced courses which differ in the complexity of the techniques taught, i.e. the EndoLIF^®, iLESSYS^® stenosis and CESSYS^® approach is only trained in advanced workshops. Additionally, joimax^® technologies were part of 4 DWG (German Spine Society) Modules for Board Certification of spine surgeons.
At the US workshops, whose attendees exclusively come from the US and Mexico, another 43 surgeons were instructed on TESSYS^®, Multiuse, iLESSYS^®, Percusys^® and EndoLIF^®. “The workshop was excellent, with lots of great input from the joimax^® team, as well as from the faculty surgeons.” stated a US-workshop attendee.

The German based market leader of technologies and training methods for endoscopic minimally invasive spinal surgery is expanding its presence and recently has obtained full product registration from the Thai Food & Drug Administration (FDA). joimax^® also has approvals in South Korea, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Vietnam. For Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan, the certification for the product range is expected in 2017. “We are constantly pushing the registration process in Asia to extend the availability of joimax^® products. Thus, joimax^® is well prepared to further widen its market presence in Asia, demonstrating our commitment to the fastest growing region of the world,” states Wolfgang Ries, Founder and CEO of joimax^®.

For years, joimax^® has been working with the Korean Wooridul group, the world’s largest Specialized Spine Hospital Network. Starting in 2017, joimax^®, together with the Wooridul Hospital in Seoul, will offer International courses for Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery (MISS). In a series of four courses, provided in basic and advanced level, the education of international spine surgeons is ensured. The first one, chaired by joimax^® faculty Dr. Sang-Ho Lee, South Korea, recently took place. The one-week training programs offer surgeons the opportunity to learn percutaneous endoscopic techniques and other minimally-invasive procedures with lectures, operation observation and hands-on-workshops. Since 2004, more than 600 spine surgeons and specialists from 41 countries have participated in these courses at Wooridul.

After the National Minimal Invasive Spinal Summit Forum, together with the 4^th joimax^® User Meeting in December, joimax^® China, headquartered in Chengdu, will celebrate its 10^th birthday in April 2017. On this occasion, numerous internationally well-known faculties will meet in Chongqing, China to share experience and expertise. Lectures and live surgeries are planned to be held in two hospitals and to be broadcasted via Internet.
