SDRI appoints joimax® as exclusive distributor for Synergy Cervical Disc in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

TORONTO, Dec. 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SDRI, developer of SYNERGY Disc and alternative spine technologies, enters into a five-year agreement with JOIMAX GmbH for exclusive rights to market and distribute the company’s SYNERGY family of products in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Karlsruhe-based Joimax, one of the leading medical device companies for minimally invasive spinal surgery, officially kicked off the alliance during an evening reception on December 11, during the 9th Annual German Spine Surgeons Meeting 2014 in Leipzig, Germany. Joimax also sponsored a luncheon symposium on December 12, where Dr. Thomas Bierstedt, and Dr. Bernd Illerhaus, both neurosurgeons from Orthopedic Neurosurgery Center (ONZ) in Datteln, shared their initial clinical experience and preliminary results utilizing the SYNERGY Disc for motion preservation procedures.

The SYNERGY Disc is the world’s first cervical disc replacement that is designed specifically to actively correct pre-operative deformity, prevent post-operative misalignment and provide optimal stability for multi-level procedures. The SYNERGY Disc incorporates a revolutionary geometry, offering multiple alignment corrections to provide surgeons with reliable and precise control of lordosis and sagittal balance.

The first clinical cases with the SYNERGY Disc were performed in 2009, in Europe. These pilot cases with the long-term, follow-up data have recently been submitted for publication.

The first intervertebral disc operation using the joimax® TESSYS® method for the endoscopic removal of herniated discs was recently performed in the Oberwallis Spitalzentrum in Brig, Switzerland. Dr. med. Uwe Schwarz (pictured left), Chief Physician of orthopaedic surgery, carried out the two and a half hour long procedure to remove a lumbar disc herniation together with spine specialist and joimax® Senior Faculty Member Dr. Florian Maria Alfen from Würzburg (pictured right). The patient was able to leave the hospital on the same day.

joimax® Launches New Generation of Shrill® Shaver Drill System

Karlsruhe (GER) — German-based joimax®, the market leader in technologies and training methods for full-endoscopic and minimally invasive spinal surgery, is excited to announce the global launch of its new generation Shrill®, the Shaver Drill System. Developed for the removal of soft tissue and bone, the joimax® Shrill® system is also highly effective in treating stenosis, a degenerative spine condition.

Building off the success of the original model, this new iteration was retooled to provide better user control. The sleek new design comprises a glass touch panel for easy handling and cleaning, and features expanded benefits including: a new Shrill® console that provides up to 10,000-rpm with an essential amount of torque for controlled and effective ablation of tissue, an adjustable “acceleration ramp” which settings can be programmed based on individual needs, new diamond blades, and reworked bone resectors and barrel cutters. Plus, the device is equipped with handle and blade detection; it can automatically detect connected hand pieces and adjust them to the corresponding parameters.

Record sales in 2016 are representing another 31% growth vs. 2015. This is in line with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from 2007 – 2016 of around 32%. Projections into 2017 show even accelerated growth due to the worldwide increasing adoption rate of the joimax® procedures.

Karlsruhe, 12th April 2013. April is the month of international workshops for joimax® – with its holistic Education Program and 4 cadaver workshops in total in the US and Germany the leading provider of instruments and techniques for minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery starts into spring.

The starting signal sounded on 5th April in Irvine, California, where the subsidiary joimax®, Inc. is located. The two-day cadaver lab attended by 10 surgeons at the Advanced Med Institute let the spine physicians from around the United States experience the joimax® TESSYS® (Transforaminal Endoscopic Surgery System) surgery technique for the endoscopic access to the spinal column step-by-step. Reference surgeon Dr. Carl Spivak, neurosurgeon at Bassett Hospital Cooperstown in New York, talked about the anatomy of the lumbar spine, the transforaminal access to the vertebral canal and suitable indications. During the wet lab hands-on session on 3 workstations the surgeons were able to intensively try and train the minimally invasive operation technique for the treatment of disc herniations and spinal canal stenosis. „The technical performance of the joimax® procedure and the approach to the pathology have impressed me. After the workshop I feel very comfortable expanding my indications and applying endoscopy for the spine“– that’s what stated one of the attendees.

A real highlight of the spring education initiative is the first joimax® balloon-kyphoplasty workshop on 12th April at the Clinic for Accident, Hand and Restorative Surgery at the UKGM in Gießen, Germany. Besides interesting scientific presentations on balloon-kyphoplasty and osteoporosis therapy, the workshop’s main focus lies on the practical training of this minimally invasive surgical technique for the gentle treatment of vertebral fractures. Under the guidance of the instructors Professor Christian Heiß, Associate Professor Dr. Wolfgang Böcker and Dr. Markus Engelhardt their experiences and expert knowledge will be directly transferred to the 8 attendees.

The end of this training-intensive month forms an exclusively held workshop for a Chinese group of physicians at the University Medical Center of the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Germany. Under the guidance of Dr. Michael Schubert (Munich) und Dr. Guntram Krzok (Friedrichroda), the top delegation of 6 spine specialists from China will receive phase-on training on how to perform endoscopic spinal surgeries using the specific transforaminal and interlaminar joimax® access and decompression procedures.

Particularly exciting for the joimax® Faculty is 14th April when the already 5th international User Meeting will be hosted right after the Chinese Workshop. The meeting provided an ideal discussion forum for the TESSYS® users, orthopedic and neurosurgeons with scientific lectures, experience reports and an extensive practical session at the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology of the Heidelberg University. joimax® placed the focus on their new products with the shaver/drill system SHRILL® and the iLESSYS® instrument kits, that represent the consistent further development of the well-known and proven joimax® platform for endoscopic spine surgery. Dr. med. Carl Hans Fu?rstenberg, Senior Consultant and Deputy Head of Spinal Cord Injury and Head of Operative Spinal Cord Injury Department of Orthopaedics, Trauma Surgery and Spinal Cord Injury at the University Hospital Heidelberg, was impressed with the, now comprehensive, access technique: „The circle has been literally closed now. KARLSRUHE, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–joimax®, the German-based market leader in technologies and training methods for full-endoscopic and minimally invasive spinal surgery, launched its new iLESSYS® Biportal Interlaminar Endoscopic Surgical System for the treatment of spinal disorders at the EUROSPINE 2023 Annual Meeting in Frankfurt and at the SMISS Annual Forum (Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery) in Las Vegas, marking its global debut. This week, it will be presented at the NASS meeting (North American Spine Society) in Los Angeles.

 

The new instrument set, iLESSYS® Biportal for unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE), expands the wide range of joimax® endoscopic offerings by separating the instrument working port from the endoscope, allowing for free relative movement between the two. The iLESSYS® Biportal offers all instruments tailor-made for biportal spinal endoscopy, with:

  • A special Triangulation Tool to simplify the access triangulation of two ports
  • Biportal specific working tubes with inbuilt irrigation outflow control for precise water management
  • Larger, more powerful tools for effective tissue ablation and resection
