Orthopaedic and Spine Specialist, Morgenstern Institute of Endoscopic Spine Surgery, Barcelona, Spain

After initially completing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Rudolf Morgenstern studied medicine at the University of Barcelona, Spain. He trained as an orthopaedic surgeon at the Red Cross Hospital, Barcelona, before completing a Ph.D. in Engineering (Biomechanics) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. A ten year engagement as professor in Articular Biomechanics at the University of Barcelona Medical School followed. In 2000 Dr. Morgenstern received a fellowship in Endoscopic Spine Surgery with Dr. A. T. Yeung at the Arizona Institute for Minimally Invasive Spine Care in Phoenix, Arizona, and the following year he opened the “Morgenstern Institute of Endoscopic Spine Surgery” in Barcelona, Spain.

Since 1982 Dr. Morgenstern has contributed to over 300 national and international scientific conferences, has published extensively in international journals, and has registered over 15 national international patents on surgical instruments and percutaneous implants. He is a member of various scientific societies including SIB, ISMISS, AAMISS, IMLAS, IITS, SAS, SECOT. In 2009 he was elected president of the International Intradiscal Therapy Society (IITS) for 2010-2011.
