Dr. Florian Maria Alfen completed his medical studies at the University of Frankfurt. In the years to follow he trained intensively in the field of operative orthopaedic surgery, with particular focus on minimally invasive arthroscopic and endoscopic surgery. After gaining experience in arthroscopic knee, shoulder and ankle surgery, he moved his focus to endoscopic spinal surgery, and in 2002 opened his own orthopaedic practice in Würzburg. In addition, Dr. Alfen is an attending physician at the ARKADE Private Clinic in Niederschmalkalden, in the HELIOS Private Clinic in Volkach, and in the “Al Shatti Hospital” in Muscat, Oman.
Dr. Alfen has held presentations and workshops on transforaminal endoscopic surgery all over the world, including in New York, Oklahoma, San Diego, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Salzburg, Dubai and Muscat. He has been a joimax® senior faculty member since 2005. His publications on the subject include “Developments in the Area of Endoscopic Spine Surgery” (European Musculoskeletal Review, 2006).
