TESSYS® Surgical Technique for disc prolapses
The TESSYS® procedure utilizes a lateral, transforaminal, endoscopic approach for the removal of herniated intervertebral disc material, resulting in a less traumatic approach for the patient than the usual dorsal approach. With the TESSYS® technique, sequestered disc material is removed completely and directly through the foramen, which is gradually widened using specialized reamers and instruments. The patient can be placed in either the prone or lateral position. If the surgery is performed under MAC, patients will react immediately upon contact with neural structures.
